The arrival of Avowed on PS5 coincides with the major anniversary update already available on Xbox and PC, and this has led Digital Foundry to publish a technical analysis comparing all console versions. The RPG from Obsidian Entertainment is thus pitted against each other on Xbox Series X|S and Sony’s console.
The technical study focuses on performance, resolution, and visual differences between platforms, leaving a fairly clear verdict: the differences exist, but they are more subtle than many expected.
How Avowed compares on PS5 with Xbox Series X|S
Avowed offers three graphics modes on PS5, just like on Xbox Series X:
-
Quality Mode (30 FPS)
-
Balanced Mode (40 FPS)
-
Performance Mode (60 FPS)
According to Digital Foundry, PS5 shows a slight advantage in stability in the higher frame rate modes, mainly due to a better implementation of VRR. However, in terms of overall image sharpness, Xbox Series X tends to offer a cleaner presentation, consistently reaching resolution targets.
As for PS5 Pro, the analysis indicates that the improvements are limited. Internal resolutions remain around 1440p in Quality Mode and 1080p in Performance Mode, figures very similar to those seen on Series X. In fact, the medium highlights that Series X practically matches PS5 Pro in visual configuration, with no substantial differences in graphics settings.
The result is a very balanced scenario between platforms, where performance may vary slightly, but the overall experience is comparable on both current-generation consoles.
