The information comes from an exclusive report published by Windows Central, written by journalist Jez Corden, one of the most reliable sources when it comes to the Xbox ecosystem.

According to this report, the next Xbox won’t be a traditional console, but a device deeply integrated with Windows 11, capable of running current Xbox games, retrocompatible titles, and PC software, including stores like Steam. The idea is to offer an experience designed for the living room, but with the flexibility of a full-fledged computer when the user wants it.

As Windows Central explains, the concept that Microsoft has on the table is similar to what we’ve seen with Xbox Ally: an Xbox interface running on Windows, optimized for gaming and with unnecessary processes disabled, but with the possibility of accessing the full desktop. This would allow the console to be used not only for gaming, but also as a multimedia center or even a lightweight workstation.

In terms of the calendar, the report cites recent statements by Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, who pointed out that the development of the new hardware is advancing with a launch in 2027 in mind. However, Microsoft doesn’t want to set a fixed date: the goal is to arrive when Windows 11 is polished enough to offer a solid and consistent experience in console format.
