For years, it has been one of the most repeated requests by the community, and it’s finally a reality. Ubisoft is launching a free update today that allows playing at 60 FPS on one of the most beloved chapters of the saga on next-gen consoles, breathing new life into an experience that was still stuck at 30 frames per second.
The improvement comes at the perfect time, just when many players are revisiting classics thanks to subscription services. On Xbox, the game is also part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate catalog, making it even easier to return to the Rook Islands with much better performance.
Far Cry 3 gets a 60 FPS update on Xbox Series
The Far Cry 3 update will be available today, Wednesday, January 21, 2026, and will be downloaded automatically on compatible platforms. In the case of Xbox, the improvement directly affects Xbox Series, where the title unlocks its framerate to reach a stable 60 frames per second.
Ubisoft has confirmed that the patch focuses exclusively on performance. No changes have been announced in resolution or visual quality, so the main difference is noticed in the fluidity, controller response, and overall feel during shootouts, exploration, and intense sequences.
This update is especially significant because Far Cry 3 Classic Edition had been limited to 30 FPS on consoles for years, despite being one of the most valued episodes in the franchise. Now, with this technical adjustment, it becomes a much more attractive option to replay on Xbox Series, taking advantage of its availability at no extra cost within Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
