To be honest, I don’t recall a more disappointing launch than the update, patch, new game, or whatever you want to call it, that of Red Dead Redemption. Right now, it’s not about paying or not paying, the issue here is that it’s been a week since the problem was first reported, and neither Microsoft nor Rockstar (the main culprit) has provided a definitive solution.
In my case, for example, aside from owning the game on Xbox 360 in physical format, plus the expansion, I also own it digitally, specifically since 2020. After reading a lot throughout the week, the conclusion I’ve come to is that Rockstar probably never thought they’d give the game to those who had the digital Xbox 360 version, but rather the update was for those who bought the game later in its subsequent edition.
A week without receiving the free Red Dead Redemption update on Xbox
Right now, if you go to the Xbox store, I’m still being asked to buy the game for €24.99, and the promotion for this price ends in 7 days, after which it will cost €50. Here’s one thing that needs to be made clear: it’s not about paying or not paying; in my case, I won’t pay because I refuse to pay for a patch that they themselves haven’t clearly defined how we’d receive, after having already bought the game twice.
Right now, I think it will be Microsoft that won’t solve the issue by sending a code to download the game in its new version for all those who have the Xbox 360 version. I also think it’s a lack of respect that, with all the messages sent on social media and mentioning the main actors in the problem, none of them have provided a definitive solution, whether good or bad, just to put this issue behind us. Honestly, I think something will happen, although I’m not clear how they plan to explain what’s happened; what we see is that a week later, the vast majority of Xbox players haven’t received the new version, and the issue is starting to become tiresome, and the lack of communication is, quite frankly, a lack of respect.
