Players lose patience: Red Dead Redemption’s free update doesn’t reach most on Xbox

The situation surrounding the enhanced version of Red Dead Redemption continues to worsen. Several days have passed since its release on Xbox Series, and while on other platforms the free access worked from the first minute, on Xbox the process remains broken for thousands of players who purchased the digital version of Xbox 360.

What was supposed to be a simple gesture (updating without additional cost to the new edition) has become a headache that is despairing the community. Many users expected the problem to be resolved after a couple of days, but reality is different: in the store, only a discounted offer appears, with no sign of the promised free download.

The free update still doesn’t work for a large part of the community

Threads on Reddit collecting testimonials continue to grow. Most describe exactly the same thing: the next-gen version is still marked as paid, regardless of whether access is from the console, mobile app, web store, or even changing regions. For many, the free option simply doesn’t appear.

Comments reflect widespread frustration:

• “Same here. Console store, browser, mobile… nothing.”

• “It’s incredible that on PS it was available from the start and here we’re still like this.”

• “Microsoft support blames Rockstar and Rockstar sends me generic responses.”

• “The Series X is my first Xbox… the hardware is great, but the experience is being a mess.”

Although a few users claim to have been able to claim it by entering Deals for you, most confirm that not even that section offers a solution. To make matters worse, those who manage to download it from the app claim that the game doesn’t open, showing a warning asking to purchase the title. In other words, the license assignment doesn’t seem to be working correctly either.

Microsoft and Rockstar already acknowledge the problem: it’s expected to be resolved “before the weekend”

In recent hours, several players claim to have received confirmation from support: Rockstar and Microsoft are working together and their goal is to have the free update available “for everyone before the weekend”.

This deadline is the only thing that has slightly calmed the community, although many insist that official communication has been scarce and the solution is taking longer than expected.
