Over the past few hours, many Xbox players have encountered an unexpected block when trying to access the new version of Red Dead Redemption for Xbox Series. Those who own the digital retro-compatible edition for Xbox 360 are not currently receiving the free access that the company had previously mentioned in their official communication. Rockstar and Microsoft confirm that the error is being investigated

In an official message, the company explains it clearly:

We are aware of an issue that prevents Xbox players from updating their digital version of Red Dead Redemption for Xbox 360 to the version for Xbox Series X|S and are working with Microsoft to resolve it. Thank you for your patience.

While waiting for a definitive solution, the most likely scenario is that the digital licenses have not yet been synchronized correctly between the retro-compatible edition and the new Xbox Series listing. It’s a process that usually takes a few hours (or even a couple of days) when an old version is removed from the store and a new product is activated in its place.

For now, if you have the digital version for Xbox 360 and don’t see the free update, you’ll just have to wait. Rockstar is already on top of the problem, and everything suggests that it will be a matter of time before access is enabled for those who already had the game.
