The recent reorganization of Xbox Game Pass has generated some confusion among players, especially with the change in plans and new prices. However, according to Microsoft, as confirmed to Polygon, those who still have an active subscription to Xbox Game Pass Standard for console should think twice before canceling it.

The reason is simple: users who keep their recurring billing active will continue to enjoy the original conditions, including access to launch-day games (Day One), a benefit that is no longer available in the new Xbox Game Pass Premium plan.
Microsoft clarifies the situation for old console subscribers
Microsoft explained that players with the old console plan won’t be automatically migrated to the new model as long as they keep their payments active. Once the renewal is deactivated or the subscription is canceled, they will need to choose between the new options available: Essential, Premium, Ultimate, or PC Game Pass.
Players subscribed to Xbox Game Pass for console with recurring billing active can continue their subscription. If they disable recurring billing, they will need to choose between Essential, Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass to rejoin the service.
Day-one games are available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, as well as for all subscribers who still have an active Xbox Game Pass for console subscription and recurring billing active,” a Microsoft spokesperson noted.
This means that those who keep their original subscription will continue to pay the previous price ( $10.99 per month in the US) and retain access to day-one games, just like before the reorganization.
Therefore, if you’re one of those who still has the old version of Game Pass for console active, it’s highly recommended not to cancel it, as doing so would mean losing one of the most valued benefits of the service.
