A new report from Ampere Games Analytics has revealed a very interesting fact about the habits of players on the main platforms. According to the August 2025 analysis, Xbox users played an average of 5.7 different titles per month, compared to 4.5 for Steam users and 3.7 for those who play on PlayStation. This represents a 35% increase over Sony console players.
The explanation is directly related to Xbox Game Pass, a service that currently has over 34 million subscribers, most of them on console. With a catalog that exceeds 500 titles, the service encourages users to rotate and try more games than on other platforms, even if PlayStation Plus Premium offers around 1,000 games.
Xbox Game Pass Boosts Game Consumption
Ampere explains that, although Steam maintains a higher rotation level than PlayStation, it still falls short of Xbox. The differentiating factor lies in the perceived value of Game Pass, which drives users to experiment with more titles than they would if they were paying individually. The study also notes a nuance: Xbox players spend less time on average on each game. In August 2025, the average was 7.7 hours, compared to 12.7 hours on PlayStation and 11.9 on Steam.
- The data varies depending on major releases. For example, in November 2024, with the arrival of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the average playtime on Xbox increased by 20% to 10.4 hours per month. In fact, around 42% of playtime on Xbox was dedicated to Game Pass titles in August, a percentage that exceeds 50% during the Call of Duty season.
In any case, this pattern reflects a clear behavior: Xbox users prefer to try more games, even if they spend less time on each one, and that’s something that only Game Pass makes possible at this level of reach.
