MachineGames hints that Wolfenstein 3 could be on the way

A new documentary confirms that the B.J. Blazkowicz trilogy is not yet closed.

It’s been nearly six years since the last encounter with B.J. Blazkowicz in Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, and many players assumed the saga had been put on hold. However, a new documentary dedicated to the franchise seems to hint that MachineGames still has plans to continue the story.

The material in question, created by Noclip, reviews the series’ trajectory from its beginnings in the 80s to the modern reboot with The New Order. It features interesting details about the creative process and, most importantly, statements that suggest the Swedish studio never conceived this era of Wolfenstein as a closed adventure in two installments.

“We always saw Wolfenstein as a trilogy”

In the documentary, director Jerk Gustafsson recalls how from the start, they thought of a narrative arc divided into three games:

“We’ve always seen this as a trilogy. Even in the first weeks at id Software, when we outlined the plan for The New Order, we were already thinking about what would happen in the second and third games. So, yes, I hope we haven’t finished with Wolfenstein yet, we have a story to tell.”

Although there’s no official confirmation of Wolfenstein 3, these words sound like more than just a wish. With Indiana Jones and the Great Circle already published, MachineGames might be in a position to revive their other major saga.

The last title, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, starring B.J.’s daughters, already hinted at a broader future for the series. Now, with this new hint, fans have reason to think that Blazkowicz’s return might not be too far away.
