DICE shows off Battlefield 6 beta: it was possible to play on teams that did not meet the minimum requirements

The technical director of DICE confirms that optimization allowed thousands of players to try out Battlefield 6 despite not reaching the recommended hardware.

The open beta of Battlefield 6 not only attracted millions of players, but also left a curious detail that speaks to the technical work behind EA’s new shooter. According to Christian Buhl, the project’s technical director, many users were able to play on PC even though their equipment did not meet the official minimum requirements.

Buhl explained to Eurogamer that this was made possible by the joint effort of engineers and artists during the creation of the maps and optimization of the engine. “We’ve worked very hard to achieve these performance goals, so with both the lowest and highest settings, you’ll be able to enjoy the experience we’re looking for,” he stated.

Luxury optimization in Battlefield 6

Buhl himself emphasized that minimum requirements are still important for marketing purposes, but seeing how the beta was accessible even to limited hardware was “a source of pride” for the team. However, he recommends meeting the official specifications to ensure a stable and complete experience.

The good performance was also confirmed by Digital Foundry, which highlighted DICE’s technical work in its analysis of the beta. All this paves the way for the definitive release of Battlefield 6, scheduled for October 10, 2025 on Xbox Series, PS5, and PC.
