The highly anticipated Black Myth: Wukong may not be the only one making an appearance at Gamescom 2025. Game Science, the studio behind the game, has confirmed its presence at the Opening Night Live ceremony, hosted by Geoff Keighley, sparking all sorts of theories among fans. The announcement comes with an artwork that also features the date August 20, 2025, just a day after the event.
This detail has fueled speculation about a possible surprise launch of its first DLC, also known as a “Shadow Drop”. If the rumors are true, the additional content would be released just hours after its official announcement, coinciding with the game’s arrival on Xbox.
An expansion that could take us to new depths
In recent days, a supposed video of the DLC has leaked, showing the protagonist diving into an underwater environment. If true, we could be looking at an expansion focused on new underwater zones, unique creatures, adapted combat, and a visually distinct approach from the base game.
Game Science has not officially confirmed these details, but the excitement is palpable. The studio could use the Gamescom’s visibility to boost the game’s launch campaign on Xbox and other platforms, offering players extra content from the get-go.
An action RPG with roots in Chinese mythology
Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG inspired by Chinese mythology and based on “Journey to the West”, one of the four great classic novels of Chinese literature. Players take on the role of the Predestined, a warrior who embarks on a perilous journey to uncover the hidden truth behind a legendary epic from the past.
The game combines challenging combat with top-notch graphics, varied environments, and a progression system that allows players to develop unique skills inspired by Eastern folklore. Its release on Xbox is one of the most anticipated debuts of the year, and any additional announcement at Gamescom could make it one of the event’s main attractions.
