The wait for Marathon, Bungie’s upcoming game, remains a topic of interest for fans of the studio behind Destiny. Although the company has kept a low profile since the game’s delay in September, some details about its possible release have recently leaked.
In a Q&A session following their financial results, Sony expressed their expectation that Marathon will launch within this fiscal year, meaning it could be available at some point before April 1, 2026.
Marathon Could Arrive in Early 2026
Lin Tao, Sony’s CFO, stated that “we expect the launch to occur within the fiscal year“, although he also clarified that this is not an official commitment and that no official announcement has been made yet. Additionally, Tao mentioned that modifications are being made to the game’s development and that a new release date will be announced this fall. This suggests that Bungie is working to improve and perfect the game before its launch.
First, regarding Marathon, as we had it in our forecast, we expect the launch to occur within the fiscal year. But, that said, this is not a commitment. No official announcement has been made yet.
Now we’re making modifications in development, and based on the progress, within the fall timeframe, we believe we can communicate when we can launch [Marathon], whether from Bungie or PlayStation.
Among the changes being implemented in Marathon are more closed testing, dynamic events, new types of loot, more engaging AI encounters, and a “more tense and strategic” combat loop. Visual improvements have also been promised, which have already been detected in some leaked screenshots from a recent alpha, and a “darker tone” that aligns with the original trilogy. All this indicates that Bungie is working to create a game that meets fans’ expectations and offers a unique and exciting gaming experience.
Marathon is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
