It’s very likely that the name Adi Shankar doesn’t ring a bell for many people, but he’s the person behind the TV adaptations of Devil May Cry and Castlevania, both of which have been extremely well-received by fans and the general public on Netflix since their release.
Shankar seems to want to expand his portfolio of video game franchises, and in an unexpected move, he decided to purchase the TV rights to Duke Nukem from Gearbox. It’s worth noting that we’re talking only about audiovisual rights, not video game rights, although a resurgence of the character could potentially lead to new games in the franchise.
The Essence of Duke Nukem
In the interview where he announced the purchase, Shankar explained that the idea behind Duke Nukem was to give the finger to all corporations, so the adaptation couldn’t be done by one of these firms. The producer also emphasized the importance of having freedom for an adaptation of this style.
For now, there are no certainties about when the project will begin or the release date. The second season of Devil May Cry is currently in development, along with other projects from the same house, including video game franchises like Assassin’s Creed and PUBG.
