Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles will not include PSP content.

A controversial decision that leaves this remaster with only the original content released on PS1 without the subsequent additions, such as new classes and characters.

The team behind Final Fantasy Tactics The Ivalice Chronicles, the remastered edition of the classic strategy game for PS1, has decided to stay true to the original and not include the additional content that was added in the PSP version, known as Final Fantasy Tactics The War of the Lions.

According to the game’s director, Kazutoyo Maehiro, this decision was made to respect the original gaming experience and offer it in the best possible form to new generations.

Without PSP content to maintain the essence of the original

In an interview published by Square Enix, Maehiro explained that the team had considered including the additional content from the PSP edition, such as the additional classes Onion Knight and Dark Knight, as well as the characters Luso and Balthier, taken from other games in the Final Fantasy series. However, they ultimately decided to discard this idea, as they believed it would have been a loss for fans of the original game and for those discovering it for the first time.

I and other team members did not directly participate in the development of War of the Lions for PSP, but I believe the content of that version fully met the expectations of players at the time. But during the creation of The Ivalice Chronicles we wondered what we could do as a team to offer this classic to new generations, and we came to the conclusion that the best path to follow was to respect the original gaming experience and repropose it in the best possible form

The decision not to include the additional content from the PSP edition may be a blow to some fans, especially after the controversies surrounding the Collector’s Box of Final Fantasy Tactics The Ivalice Chronicles, which did not include the game itself. Despite this, the team behind the game is working to offer an authentic and faithful gaming experience, with an updated and more careful localization than the original PS1 version.

Final Fantasy Tactics The Ivalice Chronicles is scheduled to launch on September 30th on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation consoles.
