The Mafia saga returns with a bang with a prequel that bets on a very different setting from previous installments. Mafia The Old Country is set in early 20th-century Sicily and will focus on the origins of organized crime through the story of Enzo Favara, a young man willing to do anything to join the Cosa Nostra.
Thanks to the new advance published by IGN, we can now see almost ten minutes of exclusive gameplay focused on the villa section of chapter 5. The recording has been edited to avoid plot spoilers, but it reveals the tone, style, and playable approach of the title.
Mafia The Old Country shows its rawest side in the new 9-minute gameplay
Here are some of the highlights:
-
Historical setting carefully crafted: the recreation of rural and urban Sicily in 1900 is extremely detailed, with traditional architecture, arid landscapes, and visually atmospheric design.
-
Realistic combat system: the video shows hand-to-hand combat, tense shootouts, and a clear cinematic intention in the staging.
-
Narrative focus: although IGN has omitted part of the content to avoid revealing important moments, we can see tense dialogue and transitions between exploration, action, and cinematics.
-
Faithfulness to the saga: the game maintains the traditional chapter structure, with linear missions set in closed environments, faithful to the style of the first Mafia.
Mafia The Old Country arrives on August 8th for Xbox Series, PS5, and PC. IGN has announced that every Monday in July, it will share exclusive content about the game under the “Mafia Mondays” event, including the first playable preview next Monday.
