Xbox tests a new feature that allows adding any game or app to its PC interface

Microsoft is moving forward with its idea of an increasingly integrated Xbox ecosystem with PC, and a new feature in testing points precisely in that direction. In recent days, a feature has begun to appear in preview version that allows adding almost any game or application directly to the library of the Xbox app on PC.

The feature appears in the “My Library” section with a small “+” symbol, which opens the “Add Games To Library” menu. From there, it is possible to add external programs to run directly from the Xbox interface without having to exit to Windows.

This new option allows manually adding executable files (.exe or .cmd) to the Xbox app library. There is also a system of automatic recommendations, although the user can search for any program from the file explorer and add it manually.

During initial testing, it has been seen that it not only works with games, but also with applications of all kinds. Some examples that have already been successfully tested include tools like iTunes, Audacity, or external launchers, which open normally from the Xbox interface.

On PC, this feature may seem curious, but where it could really make a difference is on devices like the ROG Xbox Ally, where many players prefer to stay within the full-screen mode of Xbox to avoid having to navigate through Windows.

This idea also fits with what has been recently discussed about Project Helix, the future Xbox console that, according to several reports, would work with an Xbox interface over Windows. If that approach is maintained, being able to add games, applications, or tools directly to the Xbox library could become an important part of the ecosystem in the future.
