In the midst of the debate about the impact of artificial intelligence on the video game industry, and with the wound still open after the recent layoffs at Xbox, a new controversy has erupted on social media. This time, the controversy arose from a post on LinkedIn by the Xbox graphic design team, accompanied by an AI-generated image that has left no one indifferent.
The intention behind the image is undoubtedly positive: to communicate that the team is hiring new members. However, the approach has been widely questioned, especially given the recent layoffs that are still resonating. The AI-generated image shows a workplace scene with clearly poorly designed elements, such as a monitor placed upside down and other easily detectable perspective and anatomy flaws. A few days ago, we shared a similar controversy with you, in which an Xbox producer suggested using AI to alleviate the emotional burden of layoffs.
Criticism of Using AI in Xbox to Promote Hiring
“Is there anyone there who can teach them to read the room?” commented one user on LinkedIn. The responses have been swift, especially regarding the use of an AI tool to illustrate a job offer at a particularly delicate time, when many workers have just lost their jobs.
Phrases like “You’re the head of the Xbox graphics team and you didn’t realize you posted an image where almost everything is wrong” or “I can only imagine how it must feel for thousands of employees to see this after being laid off” illustrate the community’s discontent.
The image in question, which was later deleted but had already been widely shared, has become an example of what many consider poor communication and employment of new technologies in the corporate environment. While Microsoft continues to invest in AI across multiple fronts, the community seems to be demanding more responsibility, especially when it comes to publicly representing the visual design team of a brand like Xbox.
