Sometimes, a new game isn’t necessary to spark debate. A well-applied update can be enough to get everyone looking in the same direction again. That’s exactly what happened with Assassin’s Creed Unity, which has returned to the scene after its recent improvements… and it’s done so with a result that few expected.
What’s striking isn’t just that the game looks better than ever, but that it does so especially well on Xbox Series X. In a context where the opposite is usually expected in comparisons with more recent hardware, this case has generated a lot of conversation among players and technical analysts.
Assassin’s Creed Unity on Xbox Series X: higher resolution and better overall experience
Digital Foundry’s analysis highlights several key points that explain why the Xbox Series X version comes out on top compared to the PlayStation 5 Pro in this title:
- Higher resolution on Xbox Series X: 2880×1620 (approx. 75% of 4K)
- Resolution on PS5 and PS5 Pro: 2304×1296
- Greater overall sharpness on Xbox, especially since it doesn’t use modern reconstruction techniques
- Smother experience on Xbox thanks to VRR, compatible with retrocompatible games
- PS5 Pro maintains more stable FPS, but without taking advantage of VRR in this case
In a game like Assassin’s Creed Unity, where image cleanliness depends directly on resolution, that difference is more noticeable than usual. There are no advanced upscaling tricks, so every pixel counts… and that’s where Xbox Series X takes the lead.
This doesn’t change the overall landscape between consoles, but it does make it clear that there are specific cases where the result can be different from what’s expected. And this is one of them.
