The annual analysis The Year in Numbers published by GamesIndustry.biz reveals a particularly revealing fact from an Xbox perspective: Microsoft’s brand remains the most present in the global video game conversation online, even in a year where Nintendo has regained prominence.

If we look at the data separately, Nintendo leads 2025 as the most covered company by specialized media, with 236,351 articles, largely driven by the Switch 2 effect. Behind it is Xbox, with 218,225 articles, followed by PlayStation with 184,976.

- However, the really significant data comes when combining Xbox and Microsoft, something common given the huge intersection between the two brands. Together, Xbox + Microsoft total 346,897 articles in 2025, a figure clearly superior to the PlayStation + Sony block, which stays at 271,108.

Beyond the ranking, the report also reflects a clear change in media focus compared to 2024. Xbox, Microsoft, PlayStation, Sony, Epic Games, Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard, Twitch, Valve, and Square Enix registered fewer articles year-over-year, with Activision Blizzard being particularly notable with a 34.59% decline.
In contrast, Nintendo grew by 30.10%, while Nvidia, SEGA, Rockstar Games, and EA increased their presence significantly, with Rockstar and EA growing by more than 50%. Nevertheless, the overall balance makes it clear that Xbox remains one of the central axes of the debate and coverage of video games worldwide, even in a year of media readjustment.
