The video game industry continues to break barriers in the current generation, and digital subscriptions are no exception. According to the latest report from Circana (formerly NPD), spending on video game subscription services in the US (excluding mobile) has reached a new all-time high in the past month of June.
The figure reached is $562 million, which represents a 32% increase compared to June 2024, establishing the best monthly data ever recorded for this type of service. Among the players involved, everything suggests that Xbox Game Pass has had a significant weight in this new peak of consumption.
Xbox Game Pass, among the responsible for the June record
Although Circana does not provide public data broken down by platform, analyst Mat Piscatella has confirmed that Microsoft’s service is among those that have driven this increase. While it was not the only player with an impact, it is evident that Xbox Game Pass has established itself as a reference in the subscription model.
Additionally, Piscatella mentions that one of the most unexpected growths was starred by the Star Wars: The Old Republic service, driven by the recent boom of Battlefront II, the 20th anniversary of La venganza de los Sith and the premiere of Andor. However, in terms of volume, Game Pass continues to lead the conversation, especially due to its constant arrival of Day One games and the attractive catalog it maintains each month.
In parallel, hardware has also experienced a significant increase (as we mentioned yesterday): spending on consoles increased by 249% compared to June 2024, reaching $978 million, in part thanks to the launch of Nintendo Switch 2. However, Xbox Series maintains its position on the podium in terms of revenue.
This scenario reinforces the role that Xbox is playing in the current industry, and shows that the subscription model continues to grow in both adoption and profitability.
