The Xbox cloud gaming service could be on the verge of receiving a significant update. According to a new discovery in the platform’s code, Xbox Cloud Gaming already includes internal references to several unprecedented resolutions, including high-quality (HQ) modes and the long-awaited support for 1440p.
Until now, the cloud experience was mainly limited to 1080p on most compatible devices. However, these new chains found in the system suggest that Microsoft plans to expand resolution options to better adapt to different devices and connections, offering an experience closer to native gaming.
Xbox Cloud Gaming Adds 1440p and New HQ Resolutions
The leaked code refers to the following streaming configurations:
-
720
-
720HQ
-
1080
-
1080HQ
-
1440
The modes labeled as HQ (High Quality) seem to be designed to offer higher bitrate and less compression, resulting in a sharper and more stable image, as long as the network connection allows it. On the other hand, the arrival of 1440p would be a highly anticipated step, especially for PC players and those with higher-resolution screens, who until now had to settle for 1080p.
For now, there is no official confirmation from Microsoft, but the inclusion of these resolutions in the system makes it clear that it is a feature being tested. If made official, it would be a significant quality leap for the service and would strengthen its appeal against the competition in the cloud gaming market. The big question now is when these resolutions will be enabled for all Xbox Cloud Gaming users. Everything suggests that we won’t have to wait long to see it in public testing.
