The future of Xbox won’t be limited to traditional hardware. For some time now, the company has been strengthening its bet on cloud gaming, and now it could take another step: offering a more affordable subscription plan dedicated solely to Xbox Cloud Gaming, without the need to go through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

The idea arises from the statements of Jason Beaumont and Jason Ronald, two of the key architects of Xbox hardware, who participated in the official Xbox podcast on YouTube. There, they made it clear that the company’s goal is to expand access to its ecosystem, with special attention to those who prefer to play via streaming.

During the conversation, Beaumont pointed out that Microsoft will continue to invest in the cloud, both in infrastructure and services. “This includes adding new servers to meet the growing demand of users who play through Xbox Cloud Gaming. We’re also exploring new ways to reach more players wherever they are. Our goal is simple: we want to bring more games to more people, and the cloud is an excellent tool to achieve this).

The executive insisted that many players currently use Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to access the cloud, either as their primary way of playing or as a complement when they’re not at home. However, he suggested that in the future it will be “even more affordable and accessible” to enjoy this service, which points directly to a possible low-cost independent plan.

Finally, the Xbox design team explained that the company’s mission is to continue adding value to Xbox Cloud Gaming, whether through the integration of first-party and third-party games, streaming of titles you already own in your library, or even additional benefits in free games.
