Xbox is experimenting with a new feature within Xbox Cloud Gaming that will allow players to choose the streaming resolution directly from the settings menu. This feature, still in the testing phase, represents a significant step towards a more flexible experience, especially for those playing from limited networks or portable devices.
In captures shared by several users, it can be seen that the menu includes options ranging from 720p (3 GB/h) to 1440p Max Quality (14 GB/h), in addition to automatic modes that adjust quality based on connection and subscription type. Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will have access to the highest quality modes, including 1440p.
A long-awaited improvement in Xbox Cloud
Until now, Xbox Cloud Gaming automatically adjusted the resolution without allowing manual changes, which sometimes generated visual fluctuations in unstable connections. This update offers total control to the user, ideal for balancing performance, sharpness, and data usage.
| Resolution / Mode | Estimated data consumption | Availability | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auto (1080p) | Variable (depending on connection) | All users | Automatic adjustment recommended based on device and network quality. |
| 1080p | 7 GB per hour | All users | Standard Full HD resolution with a balance between quality and performance. |
| 720p | 3 GB per hour | All users | Ideal for mobile networks or limited connections. |
| 1440p Max Quality | 14 GB per hour | Included with Game Pass Ultimate | Maximum image quality available, oriented towards QHD screens. |
| 1080p High Quality | 9 GB per hour | Included with Game Pass Ultimate | Enhanced version of 1080p mode, with higher bitrate and less compression. |
| 720p High Quality | 5 GB per hour | Included with Game Pass Ultimate | Optimized for portable devices with improved visual stability. |
Although the feature is not yet available to everyone, its inclusion in internal testing suggests that Microsoft plans to implement it globally soon. Another step towards the maturity of the service and its integration into devices like the ROG Xbox Ally X or Steam Deck.
