Yes, after many years of being forgotten, we can say, loud and clear, that we’ve finally played Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and we can share many of its secrets with you. Many of you probably thought this game would never be released. We’ve had it reserved for years and had serious doubts about ever playing it (the last news we shared about the game on Generación Xbox was from early 2024), but that day has finally arrived, and after spending many hours playing, we can say that it’s an essential game within the saga and the genre.
Let’s start with the basics: the game already has a release date, it will arrive on October 21st. If I had to rate what I’ve played, I’d say it’s a finished game that has all the good things a vampire game can have. Starting with that B-movie feel, a brutal atmosphere, and well-made characters, as well as a mature story and argument, with a huge amount of decision-making and, of course, blood, lots of blood.
Impressions of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Everything I’ve played has been great. The setting of Seattle and how it’s constructed is brilliant, and the best part is that it doesn’t need to be 100% faithful or recreate a realistic world; it’s a perfectly detailed scenario for using our vampire skills, as well as getting lost in the streets, climbing buildings, and satisfying our thirst for blood. All of this, with neo-noir scenarios and design that will make each new area of the game more interesting than the previous one.
Phyre, as we already knew, is the vampire protagonist of the game, with whom we’ll have many skills for both exploration and combat. In this case, the combat is very fun, although I think it can be refined a bit more; once you get the hang of combining stealth with attacks and dodges, it becomes very entertaining. The same goes for the enemies, which will range from common enemies to much tougher ones.
Bloodlines 2 & Dishonored
Additionally, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 has a detection system; when you’re walking around the city and behaving well, there won’t be a problem, but as soon as you draw attention to yourself, you’ll have the police on your tail. This forces you to do things calmly; if you want to regenerate your life and need to suck the blood of a passerby, it’s best to do it in a secluded alley or area without onlookers, otherwise, you’ll be everyone’s target and will have no choice but to flee.
Getting back to combat, enemies have a health bar; we can fight them with our fists, for example, dodging and taking advantage of our opportunities before knocking them out, and we can also suck their blood to recover our life. We can also decide to make finishing moves, which, as you can imagine, are very brutal and gory at times, something that fits perfectly with the game’s premise.
One of the things that I’ve enjoyed the most is the stealth aspect, as well as the scenarios designed for it, and that’s saying something, since I’m not a big fan of stealth games. But here, it’s quite intuitive; you have to crouch, use your abilities to position enemies, use noise to distract them, and catch them off guard, without a doubt, it’s well achieved and sometimes reminds me of games like Dishonored.
Honestly, it’s one of the games that has surprised me the most out of what I’ve been able to try this year. As I mentioned at the beginning of these first impressions, I didn’t have much confidence, and I’m sure many of you felt the same way, but I can assure you that Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is an essential game within the saga and even more so if you like vampire games, as well as their noir aesthetic and atmosphere, a perfect combination to become one of the biggest releases of the year.
