Two years after its release, Starfield remains in the spotlight. The space RPG from Bethesda failed to maintain the level of success of other franchises from the studio like Fallout or The Elder Scrolls, but the company insists that it still has ambitious plans for the game.

Following a code leak that pointed to a new space travel mode, Bethesda has confirmed that one of the upcoming updates will focus on making space travel more satisfying and with new mechanics.

Starfield will receive a redesign in its space travel

Veteran developer Tim Lamb, in a recent video reviewing his career, revealed that part of the team is working on significant changes to the exploration system in Starfield. According to Lamb, the goal is to “make space travel more rewarding”, in addition to adding new features and small details that the community has been asking for.

• The new system, which appeared in the game’s code under the name Cruise Mode, could allow for more fluid travel within each star system, although a radical change in the style of No Man’s Sky is not expected. Nevertheless, Bethesda insists that new gameplay systems, free updates, and a story expansion are on the way.

This redesign aims to reinforce Bethesda’s commitment to the project after the lukewarm reception of Shattered Space, the first paid expansion released in 2024, which has received negative reviews on Steam. The studio assures that Starfield remains a long-term bet and that, along with the next major expansion planned for 2026, there is still much content to come.

With over 15 million players since its release in 2023, Bethesda is confident that these improvements will help revitalize its new IP and regain the community’s trust.
