Ubisoft has confirmed the cancellation of six games as part of an internal restructuring aimed at raising quality standards and prioritizing the catalog more selectively at the group level. Among the discarded projects is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, in addition to four unannounced titles (including three new IPs) and a mobile game.
The decision is part of a strategic review that seeks to focus resources on projects with greater viability and aligned with the new development criteria of the French publisher.
Ubisoft Redefines Its Roadmap and Cuts Projects in Development
According to corporate communication, the canceled games did not meet the new requirements of “enhanced quality” established by the company, nor did they fit into the portfolio prioritization defined at the group level. In the case of The Sands of Time remake, the project had been going through years of studio changes and partial restarts, which had generated uncertainty about its progress and final focus.
Ubisoft has also clarified that these measures are subject to information and consultation processes with employee representatives when applicable, emphasizing that the restructuring is carried out in accordance with applicable labor regulations. For now, the company has not detailed which teams will be affected or offered alternative schedules for the canceled titles.
This move reinforces Ubisoft’s intention to rationalize its production and invest in fewer projects, but with greater ambition and control, in a context of generalized adjustments in the industry. Pending more details, the most visible impact for players is the definitive cancellation of one of the most anticipated remakes in the publisher’s historic catalog.
