Ubisoft has confirmed the acquisition of the team responsible for March of Giants, a MOBA in development that was previously part of Amazon Games Montreal. The operation means that the entire studio is now integrated into Ubisoft, along with the full rights to the game, which had already begun closed alpha testing on PC.
The announcement also marks a symbolic return for the French company, as Xavier Marquis, creative director of Rainbow Six Siege, returns to Ubisoft six years after his departure, accompanied by Alexandre Parizeau, former head of Ubisoft Toronto and principal producer of the project.
Ubisoft Reinforces its Commitment to Competitive Games
According to the company itself, the March of Giants team will become part of a future “creative house”, the new organizational model with which Ubisoft is restructuring its studios. Additionally, Amazon will offer promotional support on Twitch, increasing the game’s visibility during its development.
The operation comes just weeks after Amazon announced significant cuts to its gaming division, and reinforces Ubisoft’s strategy to boost long-term multiplayer projects. March of Giants will continue its development under the Ubisoft umbrella, now with the goal of becoming one of its major competitive projects in the medium term.
