This is the next indie game that will arrive on Game Pass and is Phil Spencer’s favorite

The game is scheduled for release in 2025 for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, and will be available from day one on Xbox Game Pass.

After the Xbox Games Showcase, Xbox head Phil Spencer talked about some of the titles that caught his eye during the various online events we’ve had this summer. One of the games that the executive highlighted was Mixtape, a adventure title that was presented during the Summer Game Fest 2025.

Spencer mentioned that he enjoyed playing Mixtape, in part due to its excellent soundtrack. He also highlighted the relationship that Xbox has with the creative team behind the game, and how the Annapurna Interactive team has been very supportive of Xbox.

When talking about the game’s soundtrack, Spencer commented that he was improvising with the team about their musical tastes and thinks they hit the spot with the selection of themes. Mixtape is an adventure game that will be released in 2025 and is developed by the same creators of The Artful Escape.

I have to mention Mixtape, not just because it has a soundtrack that I love, but also because we have a relationship with the creative team, obviously, from a long time ago, and it’s a great game for Game Pass. The Annapurna Interactive team has been very supportive of us.

The mixtape and the soundtrack… I was talking to them about what they were choosing —I don’t know what they’re presenting, so I won’t reveal some themes—, but we were improvising about our musical tastes, and I think they hit the spot.

Mixtape’s presentation during the Summer Game Fest 2025 may have gone a bit unnoticed among the many titles that were shown during the summer exhibition season, but thanks to Phil Spencer’s comments, it has once again caught the attention of Xbox fans and music lovers.

About Mixtape

Mixtape is a new indie game developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur, the same studio that brought us the acclaimed The Artful Escape. It’s an adventure that focuses on a group of three teenage friends on their last night of high school, embarking on a final adventure before their paths separate.

The game is narrated through a “mixtape” of memories, where each song from a soundtrack full of hits from artists like Joy Division, Iggy Pop, Devo, and Roxy Music, transports them to dreamlike recreations of key moments from their adolescence. You’ll be able to experience various activities that represent the teenage experience, from skateboarding and attending parties to the first kiss and the last dance. Mixtape aims to capture the nostalgia, mischief, and bittersweet feelings of growing up.
