Gifting a digital game on Xbox has never been easier, and this holiday season it’s once again one of the quickest options to send a gift to family or friends without relying on physical shipments or delivery times. Microsoft itself has reminded us how this system works on Xbox Series, PC, and devices like ROG Ally, showing how easy it is to send a title, DLC, or even a subscription with just a couple of clicks.

The process works through the Microsoft Store and allows you to choose from both your friends list and email recipients. The only condition is that both must be in the same region, something common in this type of digital gift. Once sent, the recipient just needs to redeem the code and start playing.

How to gift a digital game from the Microsoft Store on Xbox

To send a game from the console, simply open the Microsoft Store, search for the title you want to gift, and click the gift icon next to the purchase button. From there, you can choose someone from your friends list or enter an email address directly. Then, just select the payment method and confirm the shipment. The recipient will receive a message on their console and an email with the code ready to redeem.

The process is just as simple on PC via the Xbox app or the Microsoft Store on Windows, as well as on web browsers:

From console (Xbox Series / Xbox One):

1. Open the Microsoft Store on the console.

2. Search for the game, DLC, or subscription you want to gift.

3. Click the gift icon (package with a bow).

4. Choose to send to a friend from your list or enter an email address.

5. Select the payment method and confirm.

6. The recipient will receive a message on their Xbox and an email with “Redeem code”.

From the Xbox app on PC (includes ROG Ally):

1. Open the Xbox app on Windows.

2. Go to the game you want to gift.

3. Click the “…” button and select “Buy as gift”.

4. Choose a friend or enter an email address.

5. Confirm the payment and you’re done.

From web browser (Microsoft Store online):

1. Enter the Microsoft Store web.

2. Access the game page.

3. Open the “…” menu next to the purchase button.

4. Click “Buy as gift”.

5. Enter the recipient’s email address.

6. Pay and send the gift.

From Microsoft Store on Windows:

1. Open the Microsoft Store app on your PC.

2. Select the game you want to gift.

3. Click “Buy as gift”.

4. Enter a valid email address.

5. Complete the purchase.
