Hollow Knight: Silksong not only expands the experience compared to the first game, but also polishes details that can make a difference in a playthrough. One of them is the emergency save, an option that provides peace of mind when an unexpected situation arises or when the on-screen situation becomes too complicated.

This feature is activated from the menu with the Save and Exit option. When you do this, the game saves all progress related to your resources (such as rosaries and abilities), but Hornet will return to the last bench you rested on instead of reappearing at the exact point on the map. It’s a system very similar to the one seen in the first Hollow Knight.
How the emergency save works in Hollow Knight Silksong
The system has a dual purpose: on the one hand, it serves for real emergency situations, such as having to suddenly turn off the console or PC. On the other hand, it can become a strategic resource to avoid dying and losing your progress. For example, if you face a boss you know you won’t defeat or enter an area filled with enemies with very little health, you can exit the game and recover your progress from your last bench.
However, keep in mind that if you fall in combat, a white cocoon will be generated at the place of death. Recovering it means returning to the exact point and hitting it with any attack, but if you die before doing so, the rosaries will be lost forever.
With this balance between security and risk, the emergency save becomes one of those mechanics that, without being the main feature, can save you from more than one unpleasant situation in your adventure with Hornet.
