With the release of Dying Light: The Beast on Xbox Series, the first technical analyses are starting to emerge, showing how the game performs on console. Although specialized media like Digital Foundry have not yet published in-depth comparisons, we already have some initial references to go by.
The results are generally positive, although with nuances between Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The game, which brings back Kyle Crane as the protagonist, launches with several display modes, dynamic resolutions, and notable differences in frame rates.
Performance of Dying Light: The Beast on Xbox Series X and Series S
On Xbox Series X, Dying Light: The Beast offers two main configurations:
-
Quality Mode: 1728p resolution with dynamic scaling and stable 30 FPS.
-
Performance Mode: estimated 1080p resolution with a fairly stable 60 FPS rate, as we mentioned in our analysis.
-
There’s also an option for 120Hz, although it rarely exceeds 65-70FPS.
On Xbox Series S, the situation is more limited:
-
The game aims for a 1080p resolution with dynamic scaling, but is capped at 30FPS.
-
It’s stable, but the lack of a 60 FPS mode is one of the main drawbacks on Microsoft’s smaller console.
It’s worth noting that these are preliminary impressions, and the numbers may vary in future updates. In fact, Dying Light: The Beast received a new patch last night, although it doesn’t seem to have added a 60 FPS mode for Xbox Series S. Techland has not yet shared the full patch notes for that update.
