While many are still waiting to see if The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive new official content in 2026, the community has once again shown that the game is still very much alive. And it’s doing so in a way that few expected: with a fan-created expansion that introduces full cooperative gameplay to the world of Geralt of Rivia.
The proposal doesn’t just stop at a one-time activity or an experimental mode, but rather adapts the entire game structure to be enjoyed with company, including main quests, side quests, and free exploration of the map.
How The Witcher 3’s cooperative mode works on PC
The mod, called The Witcher Online, can be downloaded for free from NexusMods and adds a new section to the main menu where you can create multiplayer sessions or join existing servers. Each player can customize their character, adjust their gear, and explore the world with other users in real-time.
Among its most notable features are text and voice chat, emoji use, social encounters in taverns, and cooperative combat against open-world enemies. All of this is supported by a redesigned interface to make the experience feel natural and not disrupt the game’s usual rhythm.
Additionally, the mod is compatible with other community creations, such as the popular Chill Out expansion, which further expands the possibilities. Another example of how the legacy of CD Projekt RED’s RPG continues to grow thanks to the talent and dedication of its fans, even many years after its original release.
