Players of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Xbox Series will have to wait longer than expected to enjoy official mod compatibility. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that support for cross-platform mods via mod.io has been delayed until 2026, when it was originally scheduled for the end of this year.
This system will allow mods created on PC to be shared and downloaded on next-generation consoles, including Xbox Series and PlayStation 5. This way, the community will be able to enjoy creations ranging from visual improvements to gameplay tweaks, directly within the game.
Mods in The Witcher 3: How they will work on Xbox
The system will work through the mod.io platform, which has already been implemented in other titles such as Stalker: Legends of the Zone Trilogy. Users will be able to create mods on PC and then share them for download on consoles, with the particularity that each platform will have its own content criteria and guidelines.
This means that not all PC mods will be available on Xbox, although a large part of them will be, ensuring that the experience remains stable and adapted to console requirements.
A delay until 2026
CD Projekt RED has explained that the deployment needs more time than expected to ensure its correct implementation.
We originally planned to implement cross-platform mod support for The Witcher 3 by the end of this year, but the release will be postponed until 2026. We apologize for the delay and will share more details as we get closer to the release.
