If you’ve ever noticed that some Xbox users have access to new features before anyone else, it’s not a coincidence. There’s an official program that allows users to access these novelties before their general release, and it’s called Xbox Insider.
We see it every now and then at Generación Xbox: features that appear first for a select few and then arrive for the rest of us weeks later. April started off relatively calm in this regard, but now the pace is picking up again, and understanding how this system works can make all the difference if you want to try out the latest features before anyone else.
How Xbox Insider works and its rings, step by step
The program is divided into several levels called rings, which determine when you receive updates. From most advanced to most basic, they are: Alpha Skip-Ahead, Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omega.
- Omega: this is the initial level. Anyone can join and it’s the most stable
- Delta: accessible after advancing through the program
- Beta: requires more time in the system and a higher level
- Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead: by invitation only, with maximum early access
Updates arrive first at the higher levels and then gradually make their way down to Omega. In other words, the higher you are, the sooner you get to try out the new features.
How to join Xbox Insider and level up easily
The process is very straightforward:
- Download the Xbox Insider Hub app on your console (search and download from the app store)
- Register within the program
- Complete missions, surveys, and tests
- Send feedback to level up
The more you participate, the more opportunities you’ll have to access higher rings. However, keep in mind that the higher you are, the more bugs you may encounter, since you’ll be testing less polished versions.
In the end, Xbox Insider is a direct gateway to getting ahead of the curve on Xbox news and, at the same time, helping to improve the system. If you enjoy trying out the latest features before anyone else, it’s definitely worth giving it a shot.
