The The Game Awards 2025 gala kicked off with one of those surprises that directly connects with the history of video games. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was officially presented as the new project led by Casey Hudson, a key figure in both Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the original Mass Effect trilogy.
Although the announcement did not include gameplay sequences, the first trailer made it clear what the project’s tone is: a single-player role-playing experience focused on storytelling, with a clear focus on the legacy of BioWare’s classic RPGs.

Hudson himself has not minced words. Through his social media, he has defined the project as the spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, recalling that the game had a profound impact on his career. According to him, returning to the Star Wars universe with a high-budget RPG is “a dream come true” for both him and the team at Arcanaut Studios, the new studio he leads.
The title is being developed with Unreal Engine 5, which anticipates an ambitious technical aspect and a production on par with modern standards. For now, no release window or specific platforms have been confirmed, beyond its expected arrival on PC and consoles.
With this announcement, Star Wars returns to embracing the classic single-player role-playing experience, thanks to one of its top creative minds.
