The return of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag could be closer than we think. Although Ubisoft has not officially confirmed anything, rumors about a renovated version of the 2013 game have not stopped growing in recent months, and now they have received a direct boost from within: Edward Kenway’s own voice actor has dropped a fairly direct hint.

During a recent event with fans, actor Matt Ryan —who played the iconic pirate protagonist— responded in a very striking way to a follower’s question about Black Flag. With a conspiratorial tone, Ryan said: “Have you finished the game? Because I think you might have to do it again. There’s a reason I say this, but I can’t add more for now”.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Remake could be imminent

Ryan’s words don’t seem casual, and reinforce the theory that Ubisoft is already working on a complete remake of the game. The project has been surrounded by leaks for over a year, and it’s expected to not only improve the visuals but also update the combat system, character progression, and enemy artificial intelligence.

Some insiders even claim that this new version will go beyond a simple facelift, incorporating modern mechanics, new content, and changes to the protagonist’s abilities. It would be, therefore, a title closer to the ambitious remakes like Resident Evil 4 or Dead Space, which reimagine the originals for current platforms.

For now, Ubisoft has not issued any official statement about this possible remake, but the actor’s statements, added to previous leaks, suggest that an announcement could be very close. The Assassin’s Creed saga already has several projects in development (including Assassin’s Creed Red and Hexe), and it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that Black Flag could soon join that list, taking advantage of its enormous popularity among fans.

Will we set sail for the Caribbean with Edward Kenway again sooner than we think? Everything points to yes. And if the project is really as advanced as rumored, it wouldn’t be strange to see it announced before the end of the year. We’ll be on the lookout.
