Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been one of the most notable releases in the genre in recent months, but it has also revealed a fact that invites reflection. Beyond its quality, the game once again confirms a trend that has been repeating itself: its audience remains predominantly veteran.
And what’s most interesting is that this happens just as the title is preparing to expand its reach, as it will soon debut on Xbox, which could partially change this scenario if it manages to capture new players outside of its usual base.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and its audience: majority of adult players
- According to data from the PlayerPulse study by Circana, shared by analyst Mat Piscatella, 62% of players in the United States are 35 years old or older, and if we broaden the range, 77% are over 30 years old.
This makes it clear that the saga continues to rely mainly on those who grew up with it, which is logical considering the original title debuted in 1997. However, it also shows that attracting new generations remains one of the biggest challenges for Square Enix.
The company itself has already recognized this difficulty in recent years. Despite changes and adjustments to make the saga more accessible, the connection with younger players has not yet been consolidated. With its arrival on new platforms on the horizon, it remains to be seen if Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will manage to break this trend or if it will continue to be, above all, a game designed for those who have been following the saga for decades.
