While the community speculates about the cost of the Steam Machine’s return, a European store may have beaten Valve to the punch. In the internal code of a Czech retailer’s product page, clear references to prices for two configurations of the company’s new living room PC have appeared.
According to this information, Steam Machine would have two models, with prices that won’t go unnoticed and fit with the idea of positioning it as a complete gaming PC, not a traditional console.
Two models and high prices, according to a Czech store
The leak comes from Smarty.cz, where in the source code of a “placeholder” page prior to orders, internal prices for Steam Machine are mentioned:
-
512 GB model: $950 (excluding taxes)
-
2 TB model: $1,070 (excluding taxes)
Since it’s an external seller, these figures may be inflated or provisional. Nevertheless, they reinforce an idea that Valve has already hinted at: Steam Machine will operate at PC market prices, not in the console range.
This context is key. Valve has recently indicated that the cost will be aligned with current hardware, a market strained by the rising cost of components like RAM. This would explain a premium positioning, especially if the goal is to offer a complete PC experience in the living room, with Steam as the central axis.
For now, there’s no official confirmation from Valve, and we’ll have to wait for the company to publish definitive prices on its website. Until then, it’s best to treat these figures as indicative. If they’re confirmed, Steam Machine would clearly bet on performance and flexibility… at a corresponding cost.
