Bethesda has confirmed the release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered for Xbox Series and PS5, with a release date set for October 13, 2025. However, the first images of the covers published by various retailers have revealed a detail that will not please collectors: the physical edition may not be completely “physical”.
Both the Xbox and PlayStation versions will require additional downloads, which undermines the idea of having all the content on a single disc. In the case of PlayStation 5, the box shows the inclusion of a download code for the Digital Deluxe content, such as extra armor and equipment. This suggests that the main game will be on the disc, although not in its entirety.
The Xbox edition may only include a download code
The situation is more ambiguous on Xbox Series. The game’s cover features a warning that reads “Requires Content Download”, a phrase that has generated doubts among players and raises concerns that the box may not contain a disc, but only a code to download the title from the Xbox Store.
- Bethesda has not yet clarified whether the physical edition of Oblivion Remastered for Xbox will include the game in physical format or if it’s just a box with a code. With less than ten days to go before its release, the lack of communication has left many fans uncertain about what they will receive exactly when buying this edition.
If it’s confirmed that it doesn’t include a disc, Oblivion Remastered will join the list of recent releases that opt for a hybrid format (or directly digital), a practice that is becoming increasingly common in the industry, but is not well received among collectors who still prefer the complete physical format.
