Both machines promise to deliver a high-level portable gaming experience with full support for Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games Store, and other digital platforms, running on Windows 11. Event attendees will be able to try out titles like Roblox, Sea of Thieves, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, and, most notably, the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong, which will be available to play on these portables before its scheduled release in late 2025.
ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X: Giving it their all at Gamescom 2025
Microsoft and ASUS will take advantage of the fair to showcase the two models in this new portable lineup in detail, combining access to the complete Xbox catalog with the freedom of a Windows device. Both feature 7-inch Full HD screens at 120 Hz, but there are notable technical differences:
-
ROG Xbox Ally (estimated price: €599): includes 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, with an AMD Ryzen Z2A processor
-
ROG Xbox Ally X (estimated price: €899.99): upgrades to 24 GB of RAM, 1 TB SSD, and an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, designed for higher performance in demanding games
Both the ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X are designed to offer a complete portable experience, but with a focus on different user profiles. The standard version aims to balance power and price, ideal for those who want to enjoy Xbox Game Pass anywhere without complications.
On the other hand, the Ally X is clearly designed for demanding users, with notable improvements in battery life, cooling, and multitasking performance. Both allow for local, cloud, or domestic streaming play, and are expected to integrate new features focused on quick resume, cross-play, and instant synchronization with Xbox consoles and PCs.
The presence of these devices marks another step in Xbox’s multi-platform approach, bringing the Game Pass experience to a portable format with enough power to run titles like Grounded 2, Silksong, or Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade. Additionally, ASUS has prepared its own content and additional tests at its own stand.
