The 2025 edition of The Game Awards is now history, but the debate is just getting started. Beyond the announcements and awards presented during the ceremony, a significant part of the community has made it clear that the event did not live up to expectations, at least according to the general perception of gamers.
The thermometer of discontent has been set by Geoff Keighley himself. After the ceremony, the presenter and producer of the event launched a survey on X, directly asking the audience what grade they would give to the gala, using the traditional letter grading system in the United States.

The results speak for themselves. 38.9% of the over 400,000 participants rated the gala with a “D or lower”, while 21.4% gave it a C. Positive reviews were clearly in the minority: only 24.6% opted for a B and a mere 15.1% considered the event worthy of an A.
- Among the most repeated reasons on social media is the feeling of a lackluster finale. In previous years, Keighley had accustomed the audience to a major final announcement capable of lifting the event in its final minutes, something that many missed in this edition. The announcement of Highguard, a free-to-play title, was pointed out by numerous users as insufficient to close a gala of this caliber.
Despite featuring relevant announcements and highly celebrated awards, the general perception is that The Game Awards 2025 fell short in terms of pace and surprise, something that the community itself has not hesitated to reflect in a resounding manner. A clear warning for future editions, in an event that has already become a staple for the industry and gamers.
