The Rockstar western would fit perfectly in the calendar prior to November.

Now that we’re deep into March, the same question is circulating among Xbox Series players: will we finally see a native version of Red Dead Redemption 2 for the current generation? Rockstar’s title remains one of the most played, beloved, and highly-rated games in the catalog, but it still only runs on consoles via backward compatibility and can’t be played at 60 frames per second.
Over the past few days, comments have resurfaced on social media and forums pointing to a possible optimized re-release, although the reality right now is that we’re still waiting for an official announcement or confirmed movement from Rockstar.
Red Dead Redemption 2 still lacks an optimized version for Xbox Series
Red Dead Redemption 2 was originally released in 2018 for Xbox One and PS4, and since the arrival of Xbox Series and PS5, many players have been demanding a specific update that takes advantage of current hardware. But for now, the game retains the same technical features as the previous generation, without a dedicated patch or exclusive improvements.
A technical update or native edition requires less investment than a completely new project, but can generate significant commercial and media impact.
From a commercial standpoint, a re-release during the first half or summer of 2026 would allow Rockstar to maintain a constant presence in the market as the release of Grand Theft Auto VI approaches. It wouldn’t compete with it, but would instead serve as a perfect precursor to reinforce interest in the studio’s catalog.
As of today, there is no official confirmation, but the scenario is more logical than ever. With months to go before November, the possibility of seeing the western return with a native version on Xbox Series doesn’t sound far-fetched; rumors have been circulating for months. Now the ball is in Rockstar’s court, and they have millions of players in their hands, from Xbox to PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
