It’s been years since its announcement, and The Elder Scrolls VI remains shrouded in mystery. With no playable trailer or concrete details about its world or release date, the project continues in development while Bethesda keeps a low profile. However, Todd Howard has offered new hints about the direction the game will take.
In a recent interview, the creative lead of Bethesda Game Studios acknowledged that the release will still take time, but made it clear that the team is determined to recapture the essence that made the series a benchmark for Western RPGs.
Todd Howard Promises a Return to “Classic Bethesda” in The Elder Scrolls 6
According to Howard, titles like Fallout 76 and Starfield represented a creative shift away from the studio’s traditional formula. With the sixth installment of The Elder Scrolls, Bethesda wants to return to that recognizable style based on free exploration, dense world, and a constant sense of discovery, elements that defined works like Skyrim and Oblivion.
Additionally, development is being supported by the new Creation Engine 3, a technological evolution that, according to Howard, will allow for a higher level of detail and visible improvements in camera proximity and interaction with the environment. The studio has reportedly invested nearly two years in updating its internal engine to make this technical leap.
Although there is still no confirmed release date or setting, the message is clear: Bethesda wants to reclaim its purest identity in one of the most important fantasy universes in gaming. Confidence in the creative direction is high, and everything points to the fact that, when the time comes to show it, it will be under a vision very much in line with what fans have been expecting for years.
