Important movement within the industry that can mark the next few years. The Korean studio behind Stellar Blade has confirmed the acquisition of the new team founded by one of the most influential names in the sector.
After his departure from Tango Gameworks, Shinji Mikami hasn’t taken long to get back into action with a new independent studio. However, what seemed like a simple collaboration has ended up being something much more relevant: his team is now part of a company with global ambition.
Shift Up Acquires Shinji Mikami’s New Studio
The studio in question is Unbound, founded in Tokyo in 2023 with the goal of developing games aimed at an international audience.
It now becomes part of Shift Up, a company that has gained notoriety recently thanks to its success on console, but also has experience in the mobile market, especially in Asia.
From Shift Up’s direction, they have highlighted the importance of this move, stating that working alongside Mikami is a key step in expanding their presence outside of Korea.
The most interesting thing is that Unbound is already working on a new AAA IP, still without a name or release window. There are no concrete details for now, but considering Mikami’s track record, expectations are high.
This operation not only strengthens Shift Up as an international studio, but also marks the beginning of a new era for one of the most influential creators of modern video games.
