Almost a decade after its release, one of the most representative titles of the zombie genre is still going strong. The Polish studio Techland has announced a new free update for its open-world game, as part of a special celebration for the tenth anniversary of the franchise.

The update, dubbed Dying Light Retouched, will be available starting Thursday, June 26 and will arrive on both current and next-generation consoles as well as PC. It’s a graphical overhaul that elevates the game’s look and comes with very noticeable performance improvements.

According to Techland, this update is a partial remastering job. They have redesigned numerous environmental textures by hand, improving the look of the environments in the city of Harran. Additionally, they have optimized the game engine to allow for greater fluidity and better lighting, also adjusting the rendering system and increasing the draw distance on modern platforms.

• The improvement affects both Xbox Series and PlayStation and PC, and does not require any additional payment or downloadable content. It will only be necessary to update the game to enjoy the new features. Another special detail is the return of the original composer, Pawel Blaszczak, who has remastered the entire soundtrack by recording it on magnetic tape, giving it a nostalgic tone that fits the project’s spirit.

Techland has promised more content throughout the “summer of Dying Light“, so it’s likely that new surprises will arrive in the coming weeks. For now, players who haven’t tried the title yet have a perfect excuse to do so, and those who enjoyed it back in the day will be able to relive Harran like never before.
