One of the most frenetic FPS games of the early century is preparing its return. The new Painkiller, developed by Saber Interactive and published by 3D Realms, already has a confirmed release date: it will arrive on October 9, 2025 on consoles and PC. The project, originally announced in 2021, resurges with force after years of silence.
Saber Interactive, responsible for World War Z and Evil Dead: The Game, is in charge of this reboot that seeks to recover the essence of the original, with accelerated combat, impossible weapons and an old-school gameplay style that has regained prominence in recent years.
Painkiller returns on October 9 with cooperative mode and all its classic essence
The proposal continues to bet on a single-player campaign that can also be enjoyed in cooperative mode, as confirmed by the publisher. Although all the details about weapons or enemies have not been revealed yet, the first advances and descriptions point to a direct return to the arena shooter style that defined the original game in 2004.
What is already known is that the title will maintain its dark, aggressive, and visceral style, mixing non-stop shooting with a unique arsenal of weapons — including the iconic stakes — and infernal enemies. Additionally, it is expected to feature significant technical improvements compared to the classic version, while maintaining a purely playable focus.
The standard and Deluxe editions can be pre-ordered, although the additional contents have not been detailed yet. In the coming weeks, Saber Interactive will show a new trailer and offer more details about the game’s features and level design. Painkiller will launch on October 9, 2025, on Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, and PC. A return that promises to recover the raw and unfiltered spirit of the most classic shooters.
