Three decades ago, Blizzard launched one of the most influential titles in real-time strategy to the market. StarCraft II, the direct sequel to the 1998 classic, arrived in July 2010 with Wings of Liberty, marking the beginning of a trilogy that would define an entire generation of PC gamers, both through its story and competitive multiplayer.
Over the years, the saga evolved with two expansions that expanded its universe: Heart of the Swarm, centered on Kerrigan’s redemption, and Legacy of the Void, which concluded the story with the rise of Artanis. Across the three arcs, Blizzard built a science fiction epic filled with political tension, epic battles, and moral conflicts between Terran, Zerg, and Protoss.
15 years on, the legacy of StarCraft II lives on
Although its competitive scene is no longer what it once was, StarCraft II still maintains an active and loyal community, which today fondly remembers the golden days of ESL, classic strategies with Marines and Zerglings, and the plot twists that defined its campaigns.
To commemorate the anniversary, Blizzard has shared a commemorative message recalling three key moments in the saga: Raynor’s rebellion, Kerrigan’s redemption, and Artanis’s unification. Three pillars that still define the meaning of this work within the PC universe.
No official events, but with a community more alive than ever
For now, there are no official celebrations or commemorative content announced, but that hasn’t stopped many players from reinstalling the game to relive their best moments. And it wouldn’t be surprising to see some spontaneous tournaments or special promotions on platforms like Battle.net or Steam in the coming days.
