The return of this competitive multiplayer is not being as strong as expected. After an initial launch marked by controversial decisions and a quick withdrawal to redo the project, its return to the scene at the end of 2025 has not managed, at least for now, to recover the massive interest of players.
A month after its “relaunch”, public Steam data reflects a much more discreet reality than the one experienced during its original beta, when it managed to gather tens of thousands of simultaneous users.
Splitgate 2 and its complicated relaunch at the end of 2025
Under the name of Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, the shooter returned on December 17 with significant changes in its gameplay and a more polished focus on combat in arenas, in addition to its arrival on consoles. The studio assures that the premiere has been positive and that more players than ever have tried the game during its first days.
According to figures shared by 1047 Games, over 150,000 players tried the relaunch in its first five days, also highlighting better retention than in previous stages. The studio is optimistic and is already working on new updates while preparing a more ambitious promotion campaign for the first quarter of 2026.
The numbers visible on Steam tell a different story. During the last week, the title has registered peaks of around 1,000 concurrent players, far from the approximately 70,000 it reached during its original beta. Although these figures do not include console users, they suggest that the relaunch has not generated, for now, the same appeal.
The original project arrived in June 2025 and was withdrawn just a month later to be rebuilt from scratch, amid criticism of its state and a marketing campaign that generated controversy. Now, with an active roadmap until March and new content on the way, it remains to be seen if Splitgate will manage to regain relevance or if this second attempt will fall short of its initial ambitions.
