Splitgate 2 hasn’t had the takeoff expected, and its creators acknowledge it with honesty. In an open letter to the community, the 1047 Games studio has confirmed that the title will return to beta phase after an irregular reception and a series of decisions that, according to them, were hasty.
The decision comes with a strong change of direction: reconstruction of key systems, simplification of the economic model, team restructuring, and even the closure of the original Splitgate servers. All with the intention of recovering the essence that made the first game unique, without losing the potential of the sequel.
Splitgate 2 will be rebuilt from scratch and will close the original game servers
The team acknowledges that “they launched too soon” and that, in their eagerness to show progress, “they bit off more than they could chew”. Therefore, they will completely redo the progression system, add more portals to the maps, recover classic modes, and rethink monetization to focus on an experience more faithful to its roots.
To dedicate all resources to the redesign, they have made tough decisions: reduce staff and close the servers of OG Splitgate in a month. The studio explains that maintaining them has cost “hundreds of thousands of dollars” and that they must prioritize the current team. As an alternative, they are studying the inclusion of offline or local connection options to keep the classic version alive.
Despite everything, Splitgate 2 will remain available and will receive Chapter 3 along with patches and urgent improvements. But the real change will come at the beginning of next year, when they expect to present a new version of the game, more polished, coherent, and, above all, built together with the community.
