The success of independent games on PC is once again clear this year. Slay the Spire 2 has become one of the most talked-about releases of 2026 on Steam, reaching player numbers that have surprised even compared to much larger productions.
The sequel to the popular roguelike deck-building game developed by Mega Crit has managed to attract hundreds of thousands of players in just a few days since its arrival in early access, quickly establishing itself as one of the phenomena of the moment on the Valve platform.
Slay the Spire 2 surpasses major releases on Steam
According to data recorded on Steam, Slay the Spire 2 reached a peak of nearly 574,000 simultaneous players just four days after its release. This figure puts it as one of the biggest successes of the year on PC.
The impact is even more striking when compared to other recent titles. For example:
-
Resident Evil Requiem recorded a peak of approximately 344,000 simultaneous players.
-
Marathon, the new shooter from Bungie, reached around 88,000 simultaneous players.
In addition to the number of players, the reception from the community is also being very positive. The game maintains a “overwhelmingly positive” rating on Steam, close to 94%, with over 25,000 reviews published.
The growth compared to the first game is also notable. Slay the Spire, originally released in 2019, had a historical peak of around 57,000 simultaneous players, a figure that the sequel has multiplied by almost ten.
Everything points to Slay the Spire 2 becoming one of the big phenomena of the year on PC, once again confirming that independent projects continue to have a huge impact on the market when they connect with the community.
